What's Your Apple?

"Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,  but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.  “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.  But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”  He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” Genesis 3:1-7

When most of us think of Eve, we are reminded of how she chose to sin and eat the fruit from the forbidden tree of life - going against what the Lord had commanded.  Unfortunately, I believe we all have a little or maybe a lot of Eve in us. What catches my attention about Eve is where she is while all this is taking place.  She is standing in the Garden of Eden.  What do we know about the Garden?  The Bible tells us it was beautiful. It was created before sin. It's was perfect. The lush vegetation contained fruit trees never before known to man. The word Eden literally means, "delight". It was a garden of delight, full of heavenly fruit growing on trees! Genesis 2:9 describes God's handiwork. "And out of the ground the Lord God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food.."
This perfect world offered both beauty and sustenance.  Why wasn't she satisfied with all the Lord had provided for her?  How many times are we like Eve and fail to see the gardens in our own lives?  Instead we tend to focus on the things we don't have?  Do we take our eyes off the blessings God has given us?  We may have a soft bed at night, shelter, food, clothing, transportation, love and much more.  Nevertheless, we choose to be like Eve and set our sights on the things we don't have.  It might be a better house, a new car, another job, a better husband, perfect children, etc.  Instead of being thankful to God for all He has done for us, we keep desiring the so called "tree of life" satan has put in our mind.  The same forbidden fruit he used to entice Eve. What is your apple or fruit?  What in your life is causing you discontentment?  Pray God will remove the "Eve" mentality from your heart and mind.  Begin today to focus on the beautiful things God has put in your life - enjoy your garden.
