Fix Me Jesus

"Fix me Jesus, fix me
Fix me for my home on high
Fix me Jesus, fix me
Fix me for the by and by
Fix me Jesus, fix me
Fix me for my starry crown
Fix me Jesus, fix me
Fix me for a higher ground
Fix me Jesus, fix me"

How many of us know the depth of our own brokenness? Others may not see our struggles within, but we know and God knows. Psalm 51:17 "My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise."  We all are broken/imperfect - this song can speak to every one's heart.  It reminds us we have a Savior who can literally fix us.  There is a hope!  We live in a world where we have mechanics who fix cars, doctors who fix sickness, teachers who fix our minds, etc.  There is only One who can fix our souls & spirits...Jesus.  Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

I think it is important for us to examine the word "fix" and what that might mean in Biblical terms.  When I think of fix, I reflect on the areas of my life where I have messed up.  I would prefer God to wave His almighty hand and clean them up.  Unfortunately or fortunately, He doesn't fix things that way.  He fixes in a way that goes deeper than any of us could ever imagine.  We want the people we hurt to forgive us, we want our children to be perfect, our husbands to be more Godly than Abraham, our financial debt to be erased, our workplaces to be stress free, our purses/wallets to be overflowing - should I continue.  This is how we have been manipulated by our culture to see what the finished product of  "fixed" looks like.  I still think our souls would remain broken, even if all this was true in our own lives.  A perfect illustration of this is Hollywood.  When we cry out "fix me Jesus", He wants to fix us.  When He fixes us, remember He is fixing us in His terms.  He is preparing us for our home on high/Heaven.  He is turning our eyes to look for the by and by (where we will be eventually).  He is equipping us to be worthy to wear the starry crown.  He is fixing us to stand on higher ground.

Cry out to Jesus, "fix me".  He wants to.

From Frederick Buechner's book "Whistling in the Dark" I found this quote.  "Whenever you find tears in your eyes, especially unexpected tears, it is well to pay the closest attention.  They are not only telling the secret of who you are, but more often than not of the mystery of where you have come from and are summoning you to where you should go next."
