Bleeding

Today’s blog is about a sister we have in the Bible.  She is a young woman who had been bleeding for 12 years and because of her sickness she has been seen as unclean and an outcast.  “A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse—“ Mark 5:25-26  Imagine with me the physical and emotional implications of this woman’s life.  I know some today who are struggling due to sickness.  The continual agony of a long term sickness is exhausting and sometimes you can give up hope.  In addition to physical sickness, there are many who are feeling emotionally depleted with life.   No matter what pain you are suffering (physical or emotional), pain is exhausting.

This woman heard Jesus was passing through and she knew this would be her only hope.  She made her way to town and began to fight the crowds.  Then she saw Him.  Scripture tells us she came up behind Him and touched his cloak.  She thought to herself, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Mark 5:28.  What is your wound today?  Are you bleeding on the outside or the inside?  Like this woman of faith, we too can reach out to Jesus.  She was to the point where she knew He was her only hope.  Sometimes the paths of our day to day take us to this place. Like this woman, we get to a point in our life where we acknowledge He is our only answer.  “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.” Psalm 51:17 When our spirit has been broken, it is then we also must reach out to Jesus.  As soon as the woman touched Him, she was healed.

What can we learn from our sister?  First, we must come to the place where we know he is the answer to our bleeding.  No matter what the cause is for our hurt, He is the Mighty Physician and Healer.  He might not actually remove what is physically or emotionally causing our pain, but He provides the means to walk through it.  He is all we need.  Second, we have to fight through the crowds and faces of this world all the while clinging to His garment.  There will be people in this who get in between us and our relationship with Christ.  Don’t let the crowds stand in the way; keep your eyes on Jesus until you grasp his presence.  Third, remember once in His presence stop and enjoy the healing.
