Cloudy Skies

It's 5 AM & I'm sitting on the shore in Belize.  This is an early morning sacrifice for my man.  He loves this kind of stuff.  We are sipping coffee & he has a camera in hand waiting on the sunrise. There are clouds this morning - so we are praying the sun can make its way through so he can capture a beautiful sunrise.  Unfortunately, we sit and nothing.  The heavy clouds continue to cover up the captivating morning sun we so wanted to enjoy.

As I watch my husband in his disappointment, I'm reminded of how so many times in life we allow the storm clouds to cover our sunrise/our light.  Sometimes a shadow will fall upon us and the sun gets lost in the darkness for a season.  It is then when the skies seem to pour down rain upon us, leaving us drowning in our pain.  These storms will arise.  A phone call brings news that can change our lives forever, a letter brings disappointment, a small pain becomes a serious sickness, finances seem to dwindle, and the list continues.  Before we know it the storm builds and we have lost our light.  Our lives are not promised to be free of the storms, but remember God has promised to be with us in the midst of them and most importantly to bring us to the other side of them when we rely on Him.  I'm reminded in the book of Mark when the disciples were caught up in a storm as they crossed the sea.  They too asked the question, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"  Then Jesus looked out over the raging waters and said, "Quiet! Be still!"  And all was calm again.

How do we take shelter during our storms?  How do we hold fast to the light and allow that beautiful sunrise to peek through the clouds for all to see?  First we have to believe in the TRUE LIGHT.  We have to know that God is that LIGHT!  It is in these moments we must recognize we live for the Lord. When we walk with Him in the light, it is then He lights our path of progress, healing & trust through our faith. "If we trod on the dark road of distrust we become short sighted and stale in our faith, but in the light of Christ we come alive. We come alive to advance God’s kingdom. We come alive to His will and ways. We come alive to prayer, worship and service. We come alive to generosity and godly goal-setting. We come alive as we walk by faith with Jesus!" (Boyd Bailey)

Matthew 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
