What to Wear for 2012

What look are you going for this upcoming new year? In Ephesians, God gives us tips on our spiritual fashion for the year. In Ephesians 6:14, He tells us to "stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist". The belt of truth refers to God's word - the Bible. I have often heard God's word referred to as "our daily bread", manna (food), etc. So eat away! This is one food you want going straight to your waist. Verse 14 also speaks of the "breastplate of righteousness". A breastplate covers the front of your torso. Cover your heart with righteousness, morality & virtue. Shoes are key to any outfit. In verse 15, God says to have your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. What kind of shoes? It means to establish a peace in your heart so your feet will stand firm enough to keep you strong enough to face any battle that comes your way in the new year. Psalm 29:11 "The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace." Verse 16 talks about the "shield of faith". A shield is something that protects - perhaps a fashionable umbrella. Cover your entire being from the raindrops of life that drench you with worry, hurt, and fear. Strengthen your faith this year - make a commitment to ensure you are completely covered. Lastly, grap your hat & purse. In 6:17 we are told to take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. The helmet (hat) of salvation is knowing for certain you will go to heaven when you die." 1 John 5:13 "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." The sword of the spirit/God's word is something you carry with you always. Keep God's word at your finger tips. Treat your Bible like your purse - keeping it by your side at all times or with technology you can have a Bible on your phone.

Oh the fashion found in Ephesians! In Ephesians 6:10-18, God is preparing us for battle. It starts with, "Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God". We don't know what the year will bring. However with the divorce rate so high, struggles our children face, the direction of our country, we need to be prepared. Get dressed in style this year!
