"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers." Psalm 1: 1-3 This scripture is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. When I am dry and weary from the uncertainties of this world I think of this verse and am reminded of how God's word quenches me as if I were a tree planted by the streams of water. I envision the water from the stream making its way through the hard ground and to the roots of the tree and giving it life. God's word gives me this life. Sometimes I feel frail - as though I might crack and wither like the leaves the verse references. But I am reminded if I will meditate on His law day and night - I will not wither but prosper. I often ask myself how do people who do not seek God or know Him survive the trials of today. Who do they go to? What do they do? Who do they cry out to? Do they just walk around hurt, frustrated, confused or angry with no hope in sight? When I am hurt - He comforts me. When I am confused - He gives me direction & truth. When I am angry - He calms me. When I am broken - He heals me.
Jesus says “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:37 Jesus is calling to anyone who is thirsty. If you feel dry and weary he wants to pour in you rivers of living water. What does it mean to be thirsty? I have always been very blessed . The closest thing I can compare to thirsty is when I wake up and my throat feels extremely dry. Others have a much greater picture of what thirsty really means. I'm reminded of Aron Ralson. He is the hiker who got pinned against a canyon wall. He spent five days slowly sipping his small amount of remaining water while trying to extricate his arm. His efforts were futile as he could not dislodge his arm. He eventually ran out of water, carved his name, date of birth and presumed date of death into the sandstone canyon wall, and videotaped his last goodbyes to his family. He did live but had to amputate his arm to do so. That is an example of being extremely thirsty. In our lives, sometimes we are spiritually a little thirsty and other times we are pinned against the challenges of life and in desperate need of God to pour out the living water from His word. God's word speaks a lot about our soul being thirsty. Our souls are thirsting for ... contentment, direction, love, and truth the same way our physical bodies thirst for water. “My soul thirsts for Thee, my flesh yearns for Thee, in a dry and weary land where there is not water.” (Psalm 63:1)
Seek God and avoid the dehydration of life. “ 'Come!’ Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.” (Revelation 22:17)
