The Leading Lady

One of my favorite books in the Bible and probably the most read is Proverbs.   There is definitely a "leading lady" in this book.  I would like to introduce you to her.  Her name is wisdom. This beautiful leading lady gives us direction on how to make the right choices in life and very clearly points out the wrong choices.  I can remember when I was much younger (college student) and I began reading Proverbs.  The one thing from Proverbs that stuck with me was that wisdom comes from recognizing God for Who He is.  He is an ALMIGHTY God, who is in control of everything!  Proverbs 1:7 "Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge."

Our leading lady is introduced in the first chapter of the book in verses 2-3 where we are told why this book was written "for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young— let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance."   How many of us seek wisdom?  Where do we look for it?  I'm not referring to being educated.  I'm referring to something far greater than any degree one can acquire.  I'm talking about wisdom for life.  Wisdom to know how to make the right decisions, wisdom to know what to do when we don't make the right decisions and wisdom to deal with every challenge we will face in this world.  In Proverbs, it says to search for it (wisdom) as for a hidden treasure and you will find the knowledge of God.  When I read God's word I try to search for His hidden treasures.  Sometimes I read my Bible and step back and ask "what did I just read".  It is then I try to dig a little deeper and gain the meaning of what He is trying to say to me.  In Proverbs 3:13, we are told "blessed is the man who finds wisdom" and in 3:17 it says, "she (wisdom) leads us to peace."  In chapter 4 we are told not to "forsake wisdom and she will protect you; love her and she will watch over you.  Wisdom is supreme, therefore get wisdom."  Wisdom is crying out to all mankind in chapter 8.  She desires for us to hear her.  In chapter 8 verse 6 she says I have worthy things to say.  Verse 8:35 tells us "whoever finds me (wisdom) finds life and receives favor from the Lord."  I could go on and on about our beautiful leading lady.  This is a mere introduction.  There are so many hidden truths and treasures in this one book in the Bible.  I can't begin to tell you how many times I have been given guidance through Proverbs and it has proven true.  Everyone will agree some days aren't easy, some weeks aren't easy, some months aren't easy, and some years aren't easy.  We don't have to stumble through each day trying to figure out our direction, what we should do, or how to handle this thing called life.  We have a guide and her name is wisdom.  There are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs...you can read one for each day of the month.  God has something to say about everything in our lives... let's seek wisdom.
