Emptiness

You have to wonder how many people are walking around this world searching for something to make them happy.  What is it you are looking for?  Our culture's minds are so clouded with incredible marketing schemes, we think we want it all.  I wish there was a way for everyone to step back and reevaluate their lives.  Look around you!  Look at all the stuff!  We are such a greedy people.  All these things aren't the key to being content.  If they were, we would stop accumulating them.  We start our lives wanting things, and our society feeds this need.  We want the toys when we are younger.  We want the job, car and house when we grow up.  Then we want all the things that go in the house and the extra trimmings outside the house (boat, RV, motorcycles, etc).  Trust me, it won't stop.  Then there is the need for the "American Dream".  Everyone wants the perfect family.  Well, there's a lot more dysfunctional going on these days - so unfortunately that dream has become a huge challenge.  Then there's the perfect relationship - thank you to Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty & all the love stories that followed.

This neediness inside of each one of us is no surprise to God.  He created us that way.  He created us with a need and the only thing that can fill that need is a personal relationship with Him.  The woman at the well is a good example of someone who also was searching.  She thought she would find her happiness in men.  She had several of them in her life time.  She was empty and thirsty for something she couldn't find.  She kept looking, but she would come up empty.  Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)  Are you like the woman at the well?  Do you continue to look in the mirror and feel a burning need?  Christ is waiting for you to come to Him so he can give you a drink of complete contentment.  He wants you to be filled with a peace that goes beyond anything this day can offer.  Stop searching for things that don't satisfy - better car, better house, better husband, better body, better job, better this or better that.  The only thing we need to make better is our understanding of a God who loves us so much He gave up his life for us.  It doesn't get better than that!  Feel the void with His love, His word, His promises, His faithfulness, His deliverance, and His eternity.

In the depth of all of our souls, a place so deep that no man, woman or thing can reach, a voice is crying out for Christ.  This is a place in which God designed solely for Himself and nothing else can fill it.  The beautiful thing that happens in the depths of our soul is the Lord ministers to our spirit and brings healing, restoration and complete fulfillment to our lives.  It is this emptiness that makes us crave the things of this world - but be certain, these things will not satisfy.  For this void is the very life-source causing man to seek, know and love our Heavenly Father.
