Can I trust God?

I'm writing this week's blog for myself so bear with me.  I need to search scriptures to find God's truths when it comes to knowing He is faithful.  I am convinced the Lord looks down on me and says, "what will it take for her to get it?".  I can hear Him saying, "I always come through for her and she is doubting me again".  Doubting Thomas in the Bible has nothing on me.  John 20: 27-29  "Then he (Jesus) said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.  Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”   Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Doubt is defined as being uncertain or undecided, to hesitate, to consider unlikely.  It is choosing not to believe.  How can we break this cycle of constantly doubting the Lord?  The Bible speaks of coming to him with a child-like faith.  Little children believe everything.  Then we grow up and become cynical - or as I like to make it sound prettier and refer to myself as "a guarded optimist".  When it comes to God, we need to drop our guard and open our hearts up like that of a child.  His promises in His word always prove true.  The things he said would happen in the Old Testament did happen in the New Testament.  Dr. Hugh Ross, a Christian author speaks in his writings regarding prophesies fulfilled.  "Unique among all books ever written, the Bible accurately foretells specific events-in detail-many years, sometimes centuries, before they occur. Approximately 2500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, about 2000 of which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors. (The remaining 500 or so reach into the future and may be seen unfolding as days go by.)   Still, we doubt.

Let's talk about building our trust & faith in God.  Hebrews 11:1  "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."  For me personally, I need to constantly be reminded what faith is.  In this scripture, we are told it is confidence & assurance.  If God said it, then I must hold firmly to that truth.  I don't want to be reprimanded as His disciples were when He said to them, "oh ye, of little faith".  Another reason we begin to doubt, is when we think it's all up to us.  Whatever our crisis, most of us attempt to do whatever we can to fix the situation - sometimes making it worse.  God tells us in Hebrews 13:5   “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”.  We are not alone!  When you think you can't handle something - this scripture can bring you comfort that almighty God is right there with you and He can!  God wants to be there for us.  He wants it so bad He sent His son Jesus to the cross to make a way.  I don't know about you, but I wouldn't send my sons to a cross for any of you.  Sorry.  But what a reminder of how much it means to God for us to call on Him.  When you doubt, perhaps God is crying out to you - "Come to me!!!!"  His promises aren't just for show in the Bible - they are for us.   Deuteronomy 7:9  "Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments."  We are just another generation - one who He loves and wants to also keep covenants with.  When I ask the question, "Can I trust God?".  The answer is a BIG YES.  We all can trust in God.  Life is easier when we give all our worries and struggles to Him.  He doesn't want us to be burdened with them.  They only serve as a distraction to all the wonderful things God wants to do in our lives to glorify Him.  Let's apply the words of Thomas and say, "my Lord and my God" and believe.  Isaiah 26:3  "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."
